Welcome to the ASFA Teen Lure Courser Program! This is a certification program for young people ages 9 to 18 to introduce them to the sport of lure coursing and to encourage them to participate in a meaningful competition in which they can learn, practice, exhibit good sportsmanship, and have fun.

There are three levels of certification, each of which earns a gold seal:

  • Novice: For youngsters at least 9 years of age. By receiving a score of at least 70 on a judging form for doing the following at a field trial: running their own hound, huntmastering, and hound inspection.
  • Open: For youngsters at least 9 years of age. By receiving a score of at least 70 on a judging form for doing the following at a field trial: lure operation, course design, and judging a course.
  • Advanced: For youngsters at least 9 years of age. This is the final step for earning a full Teen Lure Courser certificate. By receiving a score of at least 70 on a judging form for doing the following at a field trial: running a field trial as a co-Field Trial Secretary. Please see the complete guidelines (TLC 07) for details.

To participate in the TLC program, a young person needs to practice with adults before seeking certification, and needs the cooperation of the field committee at a field trial in order to be evaluated, or judged, for each level. Therefore, the field trial secretary of a host club must receive prior notification that a young person will be trying for evaluation at a field trial. Each event requires that a member of the field committee, judge, or member of the club do the evaluations for each event. After each event is completed, send the evaluator's copy to Denny Baker (see address below) and keep another copy for your records. It's been demonstrated that a young person can complete full requirements for the program on a single weekend.

After the young person receives a passing point total on a judging form, the signed and completed form, or all completed forms, must be sent to:

You must include the name, address, phone number, email address (if available), and age of the Teen Lure Courser applicant.

The applicant will receive a certificate and a gold seal certifying the completion of each qualified level of certification. Completion of all three levels with a gold seal represents complete certification as a Teen Lure Courser.

Judging forms and Guidelines for the program can be obtained in two ways.

  • By sending a check for $10 made out to ASFA to Denny Baker, TLC Administrator, at the address above. Denny will send you a complete set of forms and guidelines in NCR format.
  • By downloading the forms and guidelines from this web site and sending a check for $10 made out to ASFA to Rita with your first submission of one or more judging forms. (Be sure to keep a copy of the forms.)
